From Psychologist to Public Servant — The Story of Taylor Darling

Updated: Feb 27

Taylor Darling was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and demonstrated academic excellence from the start — graduating high school at age 16 and college from Spelman College at 19 with a psychology degree. She continued her education at Hofstra University, earning a master’s in industrial/organizational psychology and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy.

Before entering public office, Taylor applied her training to improving systems, efficiency, and outcomes across industries. Her early career in psychology grounded her in human-centered thinking — a perspective she brought into government when she was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2018.

In the Assembly, Taylor became known as a coalition builder and a legislator who delivers results for her community. She secured historic investments for school transportation services, expanded apprenticeship opportunities, and championed infrastructure improvements across Long Island.

Now, as she continues her campaign to serve higher office, Taylor’s blend of analytical rigor, strategic leadership, and community engagement remains at the core of her work. Her story isn’t just about one elected official — it’s about redefining what public service looks like for a new generation of leaders.
